JonathanGranskg
Definitely HDK. Not necessarily covering the whole HDK, but maybe an introduction and some basic projects. (Banana rigging, yes please)

Guest mantragora
Also advance shader writing/building would be nice. That's a job for SYmek I had some fights on other topics with him, but one think I would never dare to try to prove him wrong is shader writing
Guest mantragora
Guys, you are sooo monothematic. HDK, HDK, HDK. Is there nothing else you would like to know about Houdini? o_O What you would like to see in HDK then? Softimage guys! Wake up! Are there some tool you would like to see implemented? FromHell
could you make a simple example how to create this ? Edited November 24, 2014 by FromHell

Maybe you just need to explain this example from start to end? Is there nothing else you would like to know about Houdini? o_O What you would like to see in HDK then? Softimage guys! Wake up! Are there some tool you would like to see implemented? beginner stuff: - setup visual studio on win. - where your compiled project should be that houdini can use it - best approach in production - make simple examples or use the examples from the doc's. pro stuff: - interaction with the GUI (3D Space) - custom exporter (soho c++) Houdini Engine - usage with QT - in another 3d software (example blender) (just a small part maybe load mesh?)
magneto
An example OP for every context would be cool (SOPs, COPs, DOPs, CHOPs, etc) How to create custom VEX functions Houdini recognizes. How to extend the VEX language, maybe implementing lambda expressions How to implement new tool handles.

With HDK it is not possible to implement new handles
gaurav
Bit ambitious...How about a basic fluid simulator in sops for fun with HDK
goldleaf
I'd love to see a SketchUp-like PushPull SOP for modeling: http://peterwonka.ne...pp.PushPull.pdf http://www.youtube....h?v=lOYpaJWNPaU I sort of understand the paper, but my programming chops aren't quite enough to finish it before Houdini 20.5 is out... but this would be awesome both to have as a modeling tool, and an example of implementing a paper with the HDK. sebkaine
HDK how to write you own simple geo exporter under windows / linux env for - static mesh - skinned mesh - particles To JSON format 3 in ASCII / Binary mode ! https://github.com/mrdoob/three.js/wiki/JSON-Model-format-3 That would be a subject of High interest for me ! NNois
1. Texts...On softimage we have a great text extrude profile bevel tool. On houdini this is a pain, the bevel tool produce really weird results on spikes, and if you want a decent bevel you just have to use an outer bevel not an inner one, inner = nogo for me or too complicated to resolve
