jkunz07
Any mention of vray in the journals refers to development of Mantra. I think it just is an abbreviation of virtual ray or something but it has nothing to do with chaos group or V-Ray renderer. It looks like some version of the plugin was posted on Git Hub but taken down shortly after. I was hoping this was done to wait for Siggraph where chaos group would do a big announcment but it seems to have just vanished for good
Marc
That would be awesome, however... Sidefx's VRAY is not the same thing as ChaosGroup's V-Ray. Clear as mud.
tinyparticle
I used vray in film production and it is a pretty solid engine with several options for different scenarios. But the thing that I love most about vray is its distributed rendering option which lets you distribute the buckets of your single frame over the network to other computers and it works extremely well. This way I can look-dev / test render even faster than a quad GPU setup using just CPU's. I wish we had the same functionality in Mantra too. Kardonn
Mantra can do distributed rendering too. I haven't tinkered around with getting it running for me at home, but we used to roll with it at the studio a while back.
br1
mantra -host1, host2 ,host3 will distribute your render across your hosts. Even simpler than v-ray
Erik_JE
I have added a special signature for all chaosgroup support mails. "Any ETA on vrayforhoudini?"
tinyparticle
mantra -host1, host2 ,host3 will distribute your render across your hosts. Even simpler than v-ray I didn't know we could do that. Thank you very much for the info. And how do the host machines listen to the incoming requests ? Do they have a background process running all times ?
