Jesper Rahlff
I just wanted to let everyone who might be interested know, that Chaosgroup have released a beta version of Vray for Houdini. vtrvtr
If anyone happens to have an issue with the IPR not working when using the houdini.env setup, the following fixed it for me: Instead of : PATH="${PATH};${VFH_PATH}" As suggested, expand everything. So: PATH="${VRAY_APPSDK}\bin;${VFH_ROOT}\vfh_home\bin;$PATH;${VRAY_FOR_HOUDINI_AURA_LOADERS}"
Joss
I'm having an issue with materials actually...is it just me have like 5 aux nodes in vray mat builder? I mean there's no even textures, so I'm assuming it's either my setup or no one have them.
art3mis
Just signed up for the beta. The more render options the better! What are some of the pros of Vray over Mantra?

Jesper Rahlff
big question for me would be if Vray is still faster rendering volumes.. Not sure it would be. Mantra is not doing to bad when it comes to volumes

Mantra is not doing to bad when it comes to volumes I think Mantra is faster when rendering volumes, but the main issue is when you need multiple-scatter; Right now the path tracing alternative to point clouds is extremely slow in comparison with Arnold for example. Lets hope that H17 surprise us with some improvements for Mantra in volumetric rendering.

Pointed it out in the forums and there working on it. Edited August 20, 2018 by hoi Unreasonable

Pointed it out in the forums and there working on it. It was a bug with houdini.prefs file, generated by Houdini itself(i.e. not modified by anyone). Something in this file made Houdini to show me just like 5 auxiliary nodes in Vray MatBuilder, like 'transform' or 'null' or 'merge' and that's it, nothing more. When I deleted it and it was regenerated by Hou, I got all VRay nodes back. Bug filed to Chaos.
