abvfx
video stuff is cool, no sound though. But that might be me? The interview was great (one of a few people ive really wanted to hear about). Lots of useful and interesting stuff. Keep them coming.
Marc
None of the videos came with sound except for the wamu commercial, and it had issues converting properly. Something to do with the aac codec they used was causing trouble. Anyway, it's a commercial and we get enough of those through the day, so no sound surely isn't too much of a bad thing . Glad you liked it. M

Netvudu
Wow, great interview. I had the chance to meet Andy Boyd almost two years ago at the Mundos Digitales meeting and he was super easy to approach and a really nice guy. He was still at Framestore back then. His work is stunning and he is obviously a great fan of the software. Edited March 15, 2008 by Netvudu
ColinCohen
Excellent interview. Boyd is a real inspiration.

symek
... and the mystery uncovered: Jason, Marc and Andy used to work in the same company in South Africa... I wonder how SESI penetrated SA so well... by chance? Another mystery below...
Jason
... and the mystery uncovered: Jason, Marc and Andy used to work in the same company in South Africa... I wonder how SESI penetrated SA so well... by chance? Another mystery below... Ha ha! We've often wondered this ourselves - but I think a lot of this comes from our boss back in South Africa, Hilton Treves - who, besides being a very cool guy, was an absolute believer in Side Effects since the early PRISMS days. He is now deeply involved with Black Ginger, which is an awesome creative company in Cape Town, South Africa.
Matt_K
First off, thanks for the great interview, and the videos work great for me Marc! And on the subject of Houdini in South Africa, if there are any other Houdini users here in Johannesburg, I'm trying to start a Houdini group, so please get in touch! At present, it seems as though there are only 3 of us here (must be a magic number) getting into Houdini, so it would be great if we could expand a bit. I can be reached through animationXchange or message me here! Thanks, Matt.

whalerider
Andy and the interviewer mentioned that the Linux version of Houdini is faster compared to the Windows version. Is that only for previewing or for other things as well? Also, is that for multi-proc or for single proc/multi-core machines?
symek
Overall stability and performance on Linux is much better. We can only discuss which Windows makes less troubles. From mplay performance up to hard rendering, Linux bits other platforms. Perhaps simply scene won't show big difference but in case of heavy bandwidth, texturing, mapping, the difference is clearly noticeable.
