static
sorry if this is a repost http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=20307972 Autodesk will not continue to market and sell Naiad as a standalone product but it is anticipated that certain Naiad technology may find its way into future Autodesk offerings. As of this time, there are no new product or offering announcements pertaining to the Autodesk software portfolio. static
interesting that they bought the core tech, but not the company. might as well have, since Nordenstam and Bridson have both joined Autodesk, according to the article.
efx
Last naiad build from EM guys You mean "Last" as EM right?? they(dev ppl) r gonna keep working but just as Autodesk??? Anyways, Even I'm not really Naiad user but Im pretty sad about this. Because normally after Autodesk buys software like Maya, XSI, bra bra bra, it's still getting better every year though, I gotta say before was much better..... edward
interesting that they bought the core tech, but not the company. Yeah, I noticed that too. Perhaps it's because they want to keep the company name for themselves in the future?
hopbin9
Anyone know how much Autodesk paid for it? Was it a cash purchase or stock option?
jason_slab
I hope SESI takes the time to develop their fluids further, there seems to be a bit of a gap in the market now
bhaveshpandey
With the price cuts in Houdini Licences, I think a lot of shops (most of the biggies have already been using Houdini for a long time now) will start using Houdini which is always a good sign Also there are relatively a large number of learning resources available for it (as compared to before i.e.) What's worth noting though is the fact that Naiad brought along/forced a lot of development work in other packages as well. I never thought we would ever see an update on Realflow etc. Perfect time for Houdini to introduce more innovations.

blackchicken
No no no no no, That company is like crazy. I remember, couple years ago, blind young man who love 3d and maya. I spoke with other VFX friend about young developing softwares like modo, cinema. I thougt that it was useless, in time when maya, softimage were kings. But now? Thanks got for this great developing software. If autodesk buy SESI, Ill definitely change my job
magneto
I hope so too, but if they get say $500M offer, that's a tough deal to reject So SESI is as strong as its owners
ryew
Autodesk scares me though. What if they buy SESI? They got the $$ Money isn't everything. It's pretty evident (to me, anyway) that Houdini is made by people who care about the software they are making and care about the users creating amazing things with it. I find it hard to believe that a group with that much love for what they bring to the world would allow themselves to be absorbed by the Megacorp of CG products. SESI is definitely a good company. But you don't need the whole company to change their minds, just the owners which I believe are a few people
