Bazilikum
Hello! My name is Amit and im quite new to Houdini. Recently I have finished a procedural cube rig with built in walking capabilities. I believe its quite interesting and a fresh approach for what builds a character. Link to vimeo: https://vimeo.com/58412569 Link to my site page: http://polarmesh.com/portfolio/the-walking-cube/ Attached is the scene file I hope you like it! Please tell me if you think it can be improved. Thanks! Amit. TheWalkingCube.zip

kev2
H Amit, Did you render this in Mantra? I'm wondering why I don't get the black wireframes lines in my renders from your script. Nice blog btw, Kevin

Nice blog btw, Kevin You can get this effect by flipbooking the viewport (with wireframe display set in the viewport) and then multiplying that with an ambient occlusion render. edward
Very good! I think you must do some sort of breakdown video too to demonstrate the animation controls as well. In your vimeo description, you mentioned that you tried doing this in other packages as well. How was this experience compared to rigging in Houdini?
Bazilikum
Thanks all of you guys for your kind words! this is so heartwarming and I can see what i heard about the Houdini community is true. You can get this effect by flipbooking the viewport (with wireframe display set in the viewport) and then multiplying that with an ambient occlusion render. Yep, exactly how i did it Thanks! Very good! I think you must do some sort of breakdown video too to demonstrate the animation controls as well. In your vimeo description, you mentioned that you tried doing this in other packages as well. How was this experience compared to rigging in Houdini? I tried doing this in Maya - finished some basic concepts but it involved too much scripting and things got REALLLLLY slow. Then i tried in XSI - Much better, almost got there, but it was nerve wrecking. Then Houdini - I was literally shocked at how easy it was. Im am in love with this progrem. But ONLY for effects and procedural stuff, i cant imagine myself rigging a biped or modeling in it. But im new to it, so maybe that will change too. I hope this answers your question.
