Houdini 12.5 Released with Ocean and Cloud FX Tools

Recommended Posts

Main God, this page is huge. Have you guys bought secretly another company or what?

I think SESI might've actually written down most of what they put into the release this time ^_^ . They classically understate the slew of new features, but this they seem to be being good about mentioning everything.

for me the main attraction isn;t actually the Fluidfx...

it is openVDB.

I just did a test of having one swept curve become a high res volume,

and intersecting it with another...the performance is insane...

Volume+VDB+performance.jpg

for a volume of 535x423x512 and another high res volume of similar size,

including mixing / intersecting the two,

and converting to completely quad mesh...

of 1 million+ quads...

all in total under 6 seconds..

I was secretly hoping for a new particle surfacer

..OpenVDB can do this...and fast. :)

edit I wanted to be sure, but I thought this was the case: "FLIP fluids now use OpenVDB to generate the fluid surface and use uniform volumes for rendering"

Only 535x?

You haven't seen nothing yet ;-)

You are probably right. I simply expected stabilizing release more likely, albeit I have just found unmentioned bombastics: shader calls and custom bsdf. Not to mention variadic arguments support in custom VEX! Me happy is.
