athomas
This is directly from Paul Salvini Chief Technology Officer at Side Effects Software who is London right now and spoke Tuesday night at Framestore. - SL support in VOP's so we can output Rman shaders, finally a great alternative to slim - online search function in the documentation and there was a third thing which I can't remember right now. The new release should come out very soon, a matter of weeks. Just thought I let ya all know. andre

Mcronin
Great news, I was worried they were going to wait until Siggraph to release something. Can't wait to see what makes it into this next release.
kemijo
Hey all, The third thing he mentioned was a cluster-type of deformer...described by another person as a blend between the PaintSOP and thr EditSOP. There are many other features that Paul didn't mention in that seminar that were mentioned in meetings...and I think it might be out sooner than you think. Very exciting indeed...there are a few things that have been asked for that we'll have to wait until 7.0 to see, like a new dynamic environment based on choosing solvers to use (what solvers, he didn't mention) or writing your own...the possibilities are immense. 6.5 will be big for current Houdini users those that are already interested...I predict 7.0 will be huge for everyone. Can't wait. I wasn't privy to the meetings so I'm still trying to extract info from the main Houdini guys here...
DaJuice
- SL support in VOP's so we can output Rman shaders, Woa, that's rather big news isn't it? Pretty cool.

Mcronin
That's pretty huge. I think shader writers will appreciate VOPs more than Slim.
TheUsualAlex
wow! Definitely is a very exciting time for us Houdini people. Now... Let's see... Houdini 7.1.
MG
SL just like with the good old MAT's, but then better Amazing, I love Houdini.
nik
houdini seems to be making huge strides of late but are they neglecting teh effects and simulations based stuff. i was hoping for more in regards to RBD, CFD, more mantra progress and POPs hasn't had much added to it for ages.... don't get me wrong, i love what they are doing but the effects side seems to be less of a priority in this release. i always thought it was their main focus. Jason
SIde Effects is working on a large dynamics portion to Houdini right now; it's their number one focus for Houdini 7.0. I would bet that we'll all see what they've been up to by Siggraph this year. Till then, Syflex and RealFlow are the only consumer options for Houdini right now...
