Does NUKE replace Shake on Windows

Thanks Marc, (takes a bow)

Nuke is our in-house compositor which we're considering selling now. It's a really fast scanline-rendering floating point precision compositor. It's node-based, like Shake. The entire package is built on top of tcl so it's very very scriptable.

It's moderately easy to write plugins, but there are plans to make it very easy, I'm sure especially if it goes commercial. Because it's in-house, not a whole lot of time is spent on the dressing up of the application. It looks boring, but has a an incredible amount of power behind it and is very adaptable to other environments due to the scripting.

And it's tried and tested :)

Cheers,

J.

  • 2 weeks later...

When I first heard that Shake will go all the way for MAC i was so mad.

I realy like the idea behind the whole Shake concept.

I saw few screenshots of Nuke - it looks scary

I mean - not so intuitive interface.

Do u plan to make it more convenient for "not after MIT guys" :D

hi Peng,

Theoretically, its counter productive to make a hard-to-use program....with that in mind, im sure learning nuke will be just as "easy" as shake...i use the word easy loosely, because everything has a learning curve, some more than others *cough* houdini *cough*...

Also depends if Nuke has proper documentation and support. :)

Dunno... Personally I think that Halo rules.

Its easily among the best compositors I've ever seen, and I've seen a few. Granted its missing some features, but its early days yet, so I can't wait to see whats coming out in the nexst while.

Marc

P.S. Cheap too.. only $2999 for 4 platforms.

It seems like DD is now seriously considering selling NUKE whereas before it was just a bit of research.

Some other NUKE features for you:

*) Floating point

*) Deep rasters

*) Works in custom colour-spaces (very *very* important for film-work)

*) 3D cameras, Pan n Tile cards, etc

*) Rotoscoping

*) Multithreaded

*) TCL scriptable

*) Very fast startup time, fast operators

*) Proxy/High rez alternatives

Isn't Halo included with the complete (family?) Houdini 5.5 package?

Oh and, NUKE being written with TCL is great!

It does.

But you can also get it as a standalone.

I know that. (That's what I meant.)

Thanks for telling me though. I just wanted to make sure you know! :)
