MAYA VS Houdini

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Im so incredible happy that I just discovered Maya, after struggling with Houdini a year or so.
When I opened Maya, everything was so intuitive and clever - I just understood the basics without any tutorial and it feels fantastic to be an artist again without the need of a beeing into engineering or number cruncher.
In my opinion Houdini is a non working resource if you dont have carried through several advanced courses of different data languages.
And, it is insane that you need a bunch of nodes to do simple tasks, hours to set up the renderer to perform a decent result and advanced and multiple languages to do the simplest tasks.

But Im very happy about the voronoi fracturing and dynamic solutions, and I hope I find the dynamic tools in Maya to offer the same flexibility.

I love that everyone here is talking like he is leaving or dying hahahaha! I think i will go with the relationship tone.

Great to hear you found something you enjoy man, you are a good person and deserve to be treated so, good ridence to that gal houdini. Always so needy!

In all seriousness, Maya is a great app and I am glad you enjoy it! never lose your houdini knowledge!

honestly for everything mundane Maya is a way better piece of kit.
Modelling animation rigging is all easier and faster in Maya...

it's when you want to do something complex or make it into a reusable system where Houdini shines.

remember though, it's never versus, it is a cooperation between tools. pick the right tool for the job.

don't force it the other way around.

I don't think that modeling is easier in Maya. Technical modeling is way better in Houdini and for anything organic I wouldn't even touch any of those two because they suck badly at it.

Rigging? That also depends on what type of rig you want to do.

Animation? If you are talking about character animation, than yes. But in todays world, with cheap consumer VR solutions for tracking body movement on the horizont, character animation may enter the age of "Do we really need Maya for this?".

I'm not entirely certain why you posted this here other than to solicit vigorous disagreement :). Either way, if Maya works for you then go for it. Hopefully it helps you grow and become a better artist. If you ever come back to Houdini, you know where to find us.

This is obviously a troll thread; it serves no purpose.  Let's try to keep odforce filled with professionalism and enthusiasm.

Don't be afraid to come back should you grow tired of the Undo workflow.
