abvfx
I guess they don't like ICE.... hehe You would think will all the hooha that the new XSI got that it would be stronger than ever. I thought it did a pretty good job of getting the word out on ICE despite Houdniks thinking "whats the big deal, we have had that and more since 1999 or longer". Maybe this was the endgame all along. get some attention from a good update then sell. (Despite how houdniks feel about ICE its good to see a company actually deliver worthy updates). michael
I think it's more the fact that the Softimage products just don't generate that much money for Avid - editing and sound are their big areas....
Jason
Crazy news, thanks... Now we wait to see how this unfold, I suppose. Does this mean it's over for XSI? Or just that someone else is buying it?
malexander
I'm sure they'll survive, though I wouldn't want to be working there right now (that & I like working on H so much..). I'm sure the new buyer would be looking at ways to make them more "profitable".

stevenong
Hahaha.... ... but it's sad that innovation is gonna be done by one big company in the future. Mo' competition, mo' better... IMHO.
Wolfwood
When Autodesk bought Alias I didn't think much of it cause Maya and 3DSMax have always been oriented to different markets (with some minimal blending). Now that they have acquired XSI they now have a product which overlaps with two of their existing ones. (And that's ignoring Mudbox) Strange strange strange. To be honest, I would have thought Adobe would have been interested simply to round out the DCC suite.
