Tridae
So things have started to die down a bit nearing the end of the year at my studio here and it's prime time to mess with co-workers. I'm looking for Houdini / Linux specific pranks to pull when they step away from their machines to get coffee. I've started by adjusting the interface colors down to absolute 0 . This makes the UI totally useless and you're forced to fumble around to get back to the menu. It's amusing to watch. Best technique is to open a secondary instance and adjust it there then close that instance. The blackness will only strike once they relaunch their current houdini. . . enough time to evade suspicion. So anyone else have any ideas? Something that repeatedly turns the interface bright pink would be great.
eetu
One classic could be to take a screenshot of Houdini and use that as desktop background. (Hide any existing icons)
loopyllama
add this to their houdini.env file: HOUDINI_SPLASH_MESSAGE = "I <3 PONIES" or for less subtlety set the HOUDINI_SPLASH_FILE a quick one: hit n twice to hide all operator names. more advanced: hit n twice and remap the hotkey preference "Show Operator Names" to nothing. low tech: switch the physical "a" and "s" keys on the keyboard. bonus points awarded if done before they have to type their login password.
Tridae
Ah, the hide operator names one is brilliant. Works easily and is super annoying. Good tip. Now to wait until they step away . . . .
Skybar
Maybe bind L (organize the nodes) to another key? Like U or I which you use often. That would be suuuper annoying!
Sierra62
a quick one: hit n twice to hide all operator names. more advanced: hit n twice and remap the hotkey preference "Show Operator Names" to nothing. That is pure evil.
insania
About linux, some things we tried at work, very annoying : Do a loop, and reduce the gamma very very slowly, by small value every second. The screen becomes darker and darker... Slow down/speed up the mouse speed. Tremendous. I think you can also inverse the mouse directions. Beep. send a lot of beeps on other computers. Spamming other's computers with a lot of popup (like xeyes, or "tasteful" pictures... ) Changing aliases (adding like 10 beeps, each time you open a new console...). etc About Houdini, I think you can also replace the "default" geometry, when you create a new file node. Replace the cube by a less politically correct mesh .

kleer001
I've never quite understood the culture of pranks or the joy of pranking. They've always rubbed me the wrong way. But then again I didn't grow up with older brothers or grow up being pranked or pranking others in return. So, there ya go, I got a stick up my bum. acey195
You could write some python script that automatically sends emails and hide that in some embedded otl somewhere inside a foreach node, so everytime that node cooks... not to give my colleagues any ideas of course....
