Jason
Hi all, Just wanted to say thank you for diligently reporting these spammers that keep popping up. I've added Ban Filter that hopefully slows some of it down. #naive
magneto
Maybe also a Houdini related question at registration? This should eliminate those spammers greatly.
Skybar
"Can you put a SHOP in a VOP in a SOP in a DOP in a COP in a ROP in a MOP?" yes/no/MOPs doesnt exist
Jason
Love it! Perhaps it should be something even more obscure like "PRISMS was the grandfather of Houdini. What did 'Sage' stand for, back in the day?"
Guest mantragora
... What did 'Sage' stand for, back in the day?... Yeaaaah... sureeee... you can add me to Ban Filter straight away cos I have no idea WTF Sage is. Sop Age? Simulation Age?
Atom
A question is a good idea, but potential new users don't know about shop pop vop sop stuff.
Guest tar
Spam is cool though, it's a pulse on the current social 'limbic' response. Quite bemusing to see it here and have views! Re: questions: would noobs even know general computer terms? bit = binary digit, pixel = picture element Could be a good educational area! Skybar
"if you double the resolution of a volume, how many more voxels do you get?" double/four times/eight times/screw you I convert it to VDB and get 1/10th of the original But yes good points, what do noobs know that spammers doesn't? Another question is, are the spammers just computers or real persons - which one do you have to fool? A simple captcha could probably steer away most of the bots, although I don't know if you have one of those already.

I find rewiring Houdini DOPs solvers easier than deciphering those godawful Captcha things :-P
kleer001
"What is the build number of the current production build?" I like. That's pretty easy to find. And probably pretty easy to automate when Sesi changes it.
IIBit
Maybe also a Houdini related question at registration? This should eliminate those spammers greatly. This would have prevented me from joining.
symek
Is it a problem of what forum software is capable of or the idea of how to recognize the spammer? I feel like the allowance of creating own topics just after registration is too optimistic... It could be: - register - read topics and lurk for a while before you can post anything (like two weeks of using forum), which most people tent to do anyway. - if desperately needed a solution, write to someone randomly chosen from a list of active users (forum friends). Then this person, based on his/her judgment, allows you to start posting before the end of quarantine or recognize a spammer. I suppose most of an old time users got once a month question from a novice user (I got), and it's not a big deal to anwer it. 50 guys with +100 posts is enough to not to worry much about it. I suppose this would be too difficult to implement by odforce team by themself, right?
Guest mantragora
Some forums have policy to say Hello in Introduce Yourself part of the forum and then admins allows this person to reply and create new topics in other parts of the forum. Skybar
Some forums requires the first post made by someone to be approved. Maybe that could be something, although it does require time from the admins. I don't know how many new users we get, but maybe it requires less time than cleaning spam does.
magneto
If we don't allow posting links for new members with less than 10 posts, that would help a lot too, since these spammers always post a link in their first post.
Marc
I've enabled a 1 post moderation rule, after which full posting privileges are enabled. This might dramatically increase the moderation load, so if anyone would like to volunteer to be a mod, we would be most grateful. Thanks M
