Quote for Emmy award winning cinematographer Andy B Casagrande IV

#lava

"Here is the Fagradalsfjall Volcano that melted my drone yesterday in Iceland. You’ll notice the drone’s camera sensor slowly melting as the optics degrade near the end of the sequence, slowly going out of focus. I really wanted a straight down shot of the molten lava erupting directly into my lens, but unfortunately all of the drone’s flight sensors had melted by this point. The drone tried to auto-execute a kamikaze emergency landing, literally inside the volcano. I immediately throttled the joystick full speed upwards, but it was just too late. I lost all connection with drone, monitor screen went blank, no signs of life, it was gone. I was super bummed, but accepted the fact that an Icelandic Volcano had eaten my drone & taken back the lithium-ions. Volcanoes are excellent sources of lithium, so I justified the loss as part of the circle of life. But, to be honest, in the back of my mind, I never really gave up & I kept pushing the throttle stick full speed upwards. And then… 77 seconds later the blank screen suddenly came to life & started displaying the drone metadata, and I couldn’t believe it, my drone was ALIVE! I had no visual image transmitting from the drone, but thanks to the flight metadata, I was able to fly blind & navigate VFR style & we got it back!"

Are traditional Houdini simulations becoming obsolete with the rise of real-time fluid simulation tools like EmberGen? How can artists adapt to this shift in technology and stay competitive in the industry?Johnny Ford[/url]
