Hehe i know. But one thing i love about the Hou community is how it doesn't overreact, hype, or even squabble (that much from what i have seen). Maybe because everyone is constantly learning, hard facts are worth gold.

An announcement of an upcoming announcement. From the name alone, sounds like experimenting could play a part... any more speculation than that and i become a news channel :)

I always look forward to what is coming from SESI.

Hmm, I wonder if this has something to do with this entry in the journal:

Wednesday, July 3, 2013

Houdini 12.5.454: Added standalone executable, gpdb, for converting from Protein Data Bank (PDB) atomic coordinate entry files to geo or bgeo files containing point clouds with the atomic data.

ive been thinking about 'the-news' and my guesses keep jumping

from .. drastically-lowered-prices to .. a totally new-fresh-and-solid-UI ..

from 5-times-faster-rendering-mantra to a-singlebuttonclick-configure-n-render-in-network ..

and from there to a huge-new-set-of-magical-and-furious-nodes ..

faap !! it jumped again ..

.cheers

What is/was google labs?

Google labs was a playground for projects and ideas by google staff. Some were useful, some not, and some became part of the standard google products we know today. Different countries had their own version (there was a google lab india for example). It was a way to put some ideas out there and see how users reacted.

Sometimes new and unextpected stuff can change the way we do something very drastically (a bit like the Black Swan theory) but it's hard to predict and hard to invest serious time into a project if you don't know what the payoffs are.

A lab could be a way to throw out some high risk rough stuff and see what evolves from it.
