  1. Hi, how can I use the same node between different shading networks. In Maya every node exists on the same level so I can connect it to the multple shaders or as a mask. Coppying node between Material builder or building shaders in one MAT context, is not useful. And whether coppying it uses more RAM or processing power? Global MAT context Separate Material builders
  2. Hello, when I right click a node and choose Actions / create reference copy I get what I want, but as soon as I copy those nodes into another subnetwork or another geo node further back in the object context those reference links no longer work. Everything is referencing the original node, which is no longer in the same geo network. Is there a way to create an absolute reference copy of a node I can move to another geo network and still have the paths reference back to the correct place? I feel like I may get a python answer to this question, however I am a coding novice. I don't yet know how to call a python script inside Houdini, or where to keep the scripts etc.
  3. Does any one know what to set on my HOUDINI_PATH environment variable so that I can change the presets folder location? Lets say I have my presets folder in D:/stuff/presets, what would be the correct path? I've tried adding HOUDINI_PATH = "D:/stuff/presets";$HOUDINI_PATH;& in the houdini.env file, but it is ignored. I've seen a few topics about this subject but nothing conclusive yet...
  4. Hello, I hope everyone is well? By making a cloud today. I wanted to use "Use painted Attrib" in the clouds node but, I was not able to use this function. I have tried several techniques. But the lack of information around this node function is missing. Do you have a tutorial or a solution? Thank you. Loan
  5. How do you opunhide all nodes in a particular category or a bunch of specific nodes using python? I wish to add this in my startup script. a simple hou.hscriptExpression("opunhide Sop point") dosent seem to work. Nor does hou.hscript(). What am i doing wrong?
  6. Hi, I'm trying to use a pyro sim to make some realistic clouds and to get the effect I want I need varying levels of dissipation, turbulence, and disturbance at different heights. I've set up some scalar fields and made a gas wrangle to have the gradients I want set up but I can't manage to get them to properly affect the gas nodes. CloudSimming.hip
  7. Hi all So I have a question about the new versions of the For-Each node, particularly the Numbers one, I have been following a tutorial from Anastasia Opera, and during the tutorial she uses a For-Each subnetwork node now I understand what this node is doing collecting the data from the box_id, Anastasia also gave the node a stamp name which will be used a bit later on for a blast node to specifically target some points following the local path hence why the stamp name was given to the For-Each Subnetwork node in order to lead a path towards a node that contains specific points with a number that is less than 3 which I understand is the point number and can also see it infant of me.... but now here is where I get confused in the new version of Houdini 17 the Subnetwork node has been disabled and be re-enabled but instead I would like to understand what on earth is up with the new For-Each Numbers node, it has some weird dodgy layout that just throughs me right off!! I would not mind trying to re-create the tutorial using this new node but its proving to be a challenge as I have no idea where to place the nodes that help in set things up for procedural modelling which I have tried to place things in myself but ended up with nothing but more errors. if someone could please help that would really awesome and I would really appreciate it. Kindly Ahmet .B
  8. Hi, I am trying to do my asset for houdini and I am looking a method which can allow me to connect one node to anoter I use something like this, but this option is connecting everything to imput1 ('grey imput') staticsolver = doptoolutils.createSolver("staticsolver", True) - create staticsolver node staticobject = dopnet.createNode("staticobject") - create staticobject node doptoolutils.addObjectToSolver(staticobject, staticsolver, True) - connect staticobject to staticsolver but some nodes has more inputs: multisolver has 2 inputs one is grey and another purple - how I can connect my node to the purple one using python language? and another constraintnetwork has 3 inputs, one grey, green and purple and also if merge node has 3 inputs connected, how I can tell which should be first? I need explanation how I can connect something to each input. I found something like this but I dont understand what I should write to make it works: http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/hom/hou/NodeConnection.html#outputNode if someone can write to me an example how should I write my script lines which show how I should connect node to purple input in multisolver, how to connect to green and purple input for constraintnetwork and how to define which is the first input in merge node. I attached picture as example what I want to connect to. Thank you Bart
  9. Hey all, can maybe someone give me an example of how the position pop node works? thanx!
