  1. Hi, a total beginner with a newbie question here. What I did successfully: I had imported a relatively simple piece of geometry in to Houdini. I made 40 copies of that object I created a dopnet in the same geometry node and ran a bullet simulation (I made a fancy pile of coins basically) I created a filecache for the last frame of the sim, since that is all I need (and want to export) I exported the frame as .abc and .fbx, however it is a single piece of geo, and more importantly, the mat ID's are all wrong I created a separate geometry node, imported the cached frame as a file, and tried exporting that as an .obj. I get a 25kb file and this error message "Save failed: No such file or directory" What I want to do but can't: I want to export the coins, preferably as separate objects if possible. If they could be instances, that would work beyond great, however I do not think that is possible. If all else fails, I just want to preserve the mat ID's (or smoothing groups) from the original file. I am banging my head against the wall here, any help would be greatly appreciated!
  2. I made this HDA to streamline the process of versioning caches. It will automatically produce a file path and file name for your cache, and load it back in once it is exported. You can flip through different versions easily by using the version slider, or using the 'Create File Node for This Version' button and wiring the file nodes up to a switch node. You can write detail attribute strings to store notes about the cache such as simulation parameters - very useful when referring back to old sim caches. At the moment this is a non-commercial HDA. Download link down this page beneath the video. Get at me with thoughts, comments, questions etc. SOP_MI_version_filecache.hda
  3. Export Quicktime Error

Hey guys, I'm having a hard time exporting mov files on H17. I can only export avi files and the files are pretty huge. This is the error. Does anyone knows what it could be? Thx Alvaro
  4. I have multiple simulation output feeding into a switch node, and multiple filecahes on the output of it. I want filecache nodes to be generated based on the number of inputs connected to switch. I am looking for a way to make the switch connect to a specific filecache node depending on the input switch selects and be able to save all the filecaches in one go, instead of me having to do it manually.
  5. Render history

Hello! When I added image to history in Render View and then restarted Houdini or my file, my images history are disappearing. Is it possible in Houdini to save image history?
  6. Save Cd to Bitmap

Sup guys, I've painted some stuff on an object and now I need to export this object to another software. I've projected UVs properly on it and now I'd like to export this data as a bitmap. I've found some info on sidefx forum saying this (on quote) but i'm quite new to shops and have no idea on what's going on there. Can anyone help me out with this, pls? My main doubts are: Should I do this in Shops? What is the Cf output? Use mantra -u option? wut? Thank you, /Alvaro
  7. Sub Steps Cache

Hey guys, I'm using a File Cache sop to cache a FEM mesh but I can't figure out how to write it's substeps. I'll use this later to collide with a flip simulation and since the FEM is moving pretty fast I need it's substeps to collide properly with the liquid. $FF doesn't work. I guess it saves integer only... not sure though. Any ideas on how to proceed? Thank's Alvaro
  8. Forcing 456.py

Heya peoples, I'm going round in circles on this one and it might just be down to my poor understanding of python and/or houdini. I've managed to get 90% of what I want for this tool complete but the final piece evades me. I've got a python tempfile.TemporaryFile being created when 456.py is triggered - it works perfectly - i.e. created upon opening a hip and deleted once the hip is closed I think what I want to do is trigger the 456.py from within a shelf tool (which is a custom saver script) I mean this is essentially the age-old quest for an "onSave" callback but sadly I have no understanding of C++ or the HDK so this solution is totally lost on me. Any pointers appreciated Cheers
  9. Hi all, I have been using the Pipe In chop and recording it with the Record Chop. I am now trying to save the data as a '.bclip' by right clicking the record chop then, save data channels. I get to choose the location, name and type. But when I click accept is says 'save failed: unknown reason'. I have tried all the different formats and saving it from chops further down the line. Also switching on and off the export flag. Has anyone had a similar problem? Is it a licensing thing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
