Hey, I just went back to the basics to better understand Houdini. In the course "Houdini for the new Artist", Tyler Bay explains Solaris (stage). When I import a scene, I get the error message "Could not open asset", I used a gltf file from sketchfab (ricocilliers). Is this due to my Houdini Apprentice license? What's missing, what's wrong?

Hey all! I have Houdini Indie Steam 19.5.435 Py 3.9 , and when I'm trying to use vellum simulations or take a Terrain from the shelfs I'm getting this errors (see screenshots). I have MacBook M1 Pro. Tried to use HOUDINI_OCL_DEVICETYPE="GPU" and HOUDINI_OCL_VENDOR="Apple" in houdini.env, but it doesnt work. I also tried to change version, reinstall current version and dance with monkeys but it doesnt help too. I can only hope for your help. -
So I have an odd problem I haven't been able to figure out yet. I have a Synology DS716+II NAS raid and using it as a shared drive so I can use HQueue to render jobs on other machines. That all works fine to render on the farm, however when I write alembic data to the NAS, I get an error everytime I try to read it back into Houdini or into maya. If I write the exact same alembic data to a local drive on my computer, then there are no read errors. And this seems to only happen with alembic and fbx data. I can write hip files and bgeo's all day to the network drive and everything reads fine, just alembic and fbx data that fails when trying to read it back from the Network drive. Does this make sense to anyone.? I would think if this was a firewall problem or permissions type thing, then no data should read or write to the NAS. The exact error I get when trying to read alembic data back into Houdini from the network drive is "Error evaluating alembic file". ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks E

Hello Houdini Wizards! I'm currently facing an issue with openCL. I'm working on a tool using openCL, being pretty happy with it, I was testing it after a vellum simulation, everything was working well, no errors at all. I shut down my computer for the night, and when I come back this morning I get this error. The issue appears even doing a simple deformation as you can see on the image Here is few things that I checked before writing this thread: - The preferences of the openCL seems correct, changing it to CPU doesn't fix the issue. - my houdini.env file is set with the following argument: HOUDINI_OCL_DEVICETYPE=GPU HOUDINI_OCL_VENDOR=NVIDIA Corporation - My graphic drivers are up to date (running with NVIDIA GeForce RTX2060). - I tried to revert to houdini 19 to see if it would fix it but I still get the error. Here is the issue from the console: OpenCL Exception: clEnqueueNDRangeKernel (-52)OpenCL Context error: CL_INVALID_KERNEL_ARGS error executing CL_COMMAND_NDRANGE_KERNEL on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (Device 0). Did anyone faced that issue working with openCL previously or found a solution? Cheers!

Hello everyone, I'm having issues & errors like this when using the Flipbook texture node atm. Not quite sure why these errors are occurring & the node is in beta & new to me as well. Can any1 help provide some guidance & help on this matter? (referring to snap01 & snap02 image) I'm also trying out the tool itself for making a texture sheet from flipbook. Looking back at the released video. They are using these 2 wrangle node to make motion vector & normal look. Any1 know what would be the coding behind these 2 wrangle that give the motion vec & normal effect? (referring to snap03 image) Much appreciated & thank you in advance for the provided guidance & help!!!

Hey magicians, anybody experienced this error with TOPs? "Work item ... as an expected output file, but it wasn't found when the item cooked". It works fine on my machine, but when I pack the scene (via archiveproject node) and run on my client farm, it shows this error. I did some troubleshooting and when the redshift proxy is off, it renders properly, any thoughts? Thanks!

Renderman (23.5, 24.0) has been running fine on the laptop in Pop!_OS!: Recently got a new desktop machine. Installed Houdini (Python2) and Renderman(24.1) on both Pop!_OS and Fedora systems, but whenever attempting to Render Preview in either or use the IPR Tool I always get this error with any version(18.351, 18.596) and don't know how to debug it. "RfH: Could not initialize Renderman" "Failed to save output to file" "AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'warn_if_no_access" I'm wondering if it's an hardware issue or some missing lib, because either environment variable or json package was working on the laptop with the appropriate versions. I've seen threads where people mention non-latin characters in the user name but I've tried with "user_01" and now "admin" and the errors the same. Has anyone faced and fixed this before? It's giving me a hard time. Test scene file I'm using: rmanQA.hiplc Thanks

Getting an error when trying to run a pyro sim with openCL: "gasturbulence1: Error: compute_turbulence_cl: Error: smokeobject1 - /obj/geo1/dopnet1/pyrosolver1/gasturbulence1/compute_turbulence_cl: Fields must be matching for OpenCL " Any ideas?

Hello, I am fairly new to unreal and am having trouble importing a hbjson file from houdini (18.5.563) to unreal engine(4.26). I have all three of these plug- ins enabled inside of unreal engine - Houdini Engine, Niagara, Niagara extras When I drag and drop the hbjson file into unreal engine I get an error that the file is unknown. Any help is greatly appreciated, Thank you

OpenCL Exception: clEnqueueNDRangeKernel (-52). This is probably due to incorrect number of kernel parametrs. I'm getting this error on each iteration when I try to use a Vellum on a sphere. I'm just trying to make a basic balloon, and am using the Vellum Configure Balloon preset from the tab menu. Essentially following the Entagma tutorial for the initial setups then deviating once I get it inflating how I want. At least, that is the goal. As it stands, that error just keeps looping until my Houdini crashes when I try to simulate. I have already choked down my cache size and have the latest nVidia drivers for my GeForce 1080. I can't find much info online and none of them have resolutions.

I am trying to do some point replication in mantra at render time with replicate point procedural shader but when I apply the procedural shader to the SOP geo that I want to render I get the error in the attached log and the render comes out completly empty. error_log.txt

Hi, I have mantra rendering issue. When rendering from render view is fine. However, when doing batch render "Render to Disk", I am getting critical error message as below. It was fine until 17.0, and this happened recently with 18.0 and 18.5. However, I suspect WINDOWS auto update significantly influences, instead of Houdini problems. If anyone knows how to fix this, it would be great, thanks!! Hello guys, I am doing my first post to see if anybody could guide me with this error. I updated Houdini to houdini 18 and an error started occuring everytime I open a proyect or pasated any node. It doesnt do anything, It just warns me of a unnrecognized token and it doesnt stop me from working, but it is really annoying. Could I have installed my license wrong? I find it hard to believe since I´ve been using Houdini since the 16th versionn and I can do it blindfolded now but who knows. Hi all, First post on here on Odforce, hope someone can help me out. I've been using noises in the material network before to pipe them into parameters however; I got an unexpected result today. I've included a screenshot of the graph (just simple aaflownoise -> fit(noise,-0.5,0.5,0.25,0.35); -> roughness parameter) but got an extremely long and grainy render that was also a lot too light (the lightest frame I included). The other two frames are with roughness just set to 0.3 on the principled shader itself (The darker one has all other settings in the project exactly the same, the lighter one I bumped up the env light a bit). Feel like I'm missing something here. What's going on? Thanks in advance!

I am trying to resurrect an old version of a Houdini plugin that no longer works with newer versions of Houdini. I've tracked down the issue to a segfault happening in the file $HFS/toolkit/include/openvdb/Grid.h , where the function Grid<TreeT>::setTree(TreeBase::Ptr tree) is checking the type of the tree: tree->type() I can't figure out what could be causing this to segfault. When I print ouf the tree details with tree->print(std::cout, 4) I see that the tree type is "Tree_float_5_4_3", which seems fine? So why would this cause an issue? Anyone have any ideas? The constraints seem to be broken in Houdini 18.0.532. I followed the regular workflow for building constraints for a regular rdb simulation. But they don't seem to make it to the DOP network. There are no errors, but the constraints don't work (They don't appear in the dopnet). Can someone please confirm this? Thank you.

Hey my Render View is working absolutely fine but if I wanna render to Disk I always get a short freeze followed by an Error: Error opening the tile device. I’m using RedShift V. 2.6.41 and Houdini 17.5.173 Hope somebody can help me with that.
